We are used to believing that sugar is life. For many of us, giving up sweets is truly heresy. We think the worst thing about diabetes is that you can’t eat sweets.
A couple of years ago, I couldn’t imagine giving up the sugar. It was all for me!
My whole world revolved around its sweet taste and the pleasure it brought. He firmly believed that without sugar life would not be worth living.
Later I realized that something was wrong, that I was relying too much on sweets. I did a lot of research and stopped eating sugar forever.
Here are the main reasons why.
Sugar is very addictive. Your body loves it for all the easy-to-consume calories it provides.
Sugar is very palatable, and that is exactly what our brain wants and rewards. In the distant past, this was a solid strategy. Food was scarce and harnessing a rich source of energy meant surviving in a harsh environment.
Nowadays, it rather means obesity and diabetes, but we cannot explain it to our subconscious.
In addition, the sweet taste is a sign of foods that can be eaten safely, and we learn it from birth thanks to our mother’s breast milk. That’s right, it’s also a bit sweet because of the lactose it contains.
In short, sugar offers a killer combination that is hard to resist and connects you once and for all.
Addiction is not the only danger from sugar. This substance is also responsible for the obesity epidemic at hand.
Did you know that by 2050, obese people will make up the majority of the population? Well, sugar is responsible for that.
It does it in a rather complicated way. First, it makes your body more resistant to insulin. This makes your pancreas work harder and produce more insulin each time you eat, storing much of the incoming calories in fat cells.
Second, the extra insulin blocks the hormone “leptin” that tells your brain that you’ve had enough to eat. This causes you to eat more because your body thinks you are starving. Note that this is partially true, because a large part of your food was turned into fat.
Sugar also produces visceral fat, the most dangerous there is. There is a term “TOFI”, which means “thin on the outside, fat on the inside.” This is a very serious condition, as the fat-covered organs can fail at any time.
Diabetes and cancer
Finally, sugar leads to deadly diseases. The first is diabetes. As you know, sugar makes your body more resistant to insulin. When you abuse sugar long enough, it becomes chronic.
When this happens, your body loses the ability to process the incoming food. Since most of the things you eat turn into blood sugar before further processing, high insulin resistance means certain death. This is the point where people need insulin injections just to stay alive.
Corporations tell us that diabetes is inherited, and this is partially true. In fact, type 1 diabetes is caused by genes, but that is an absolute minority of cases. Most of them are type 2, which can be perfectly acquired if you don’t take care of your sugar intake.
The second threat associated with sugar is cancer. Numerous studies have shown that high sugar levels can lead to the development of cancer cells. It makes perfect sense because sugar is a great nutrient. Having a lot in your bloodstream gives your enemy the energy to survive and thrive.
Think about it when you eat that extra candy bar. Do you really want to take a chance? Especially considering many other health problems that sugar causes directly or indirectly.
I’m pretty sure we’ll find out more about the deadly effects of sugar on our health in the future. What you need to do right now is avoid sugar as much as possible, because the corporations have turned it into a weapon against us.
Avoid all sweet drinks, stay away from processed foods as much as possible, and replace sweets with fruits. It will be difficult at first, but your body will thank you later.
