How to preserve the beauty of your shawls and scarves

Shawls and scarves are indeed valuable accessories. To preserve their durability and beauty, they must be placed in a suitable storage location. They should be stored separately from regular clothing. There are some tips and advice given by experts for the right way to organize well-appreciated shawls and scarves.

The first tip is to clip the scarves on the hanger. Hang it on your cabinet door or next to your closet. The second is to store your scarves in a transparent shoe rack over the door. The third tip is to store your scarves on a hanger made for the purpose of storing scarves.

Examples of a hanger made for scarves are the Swivel Scarf Hanger, 10-Hole Scarf Hanger, Non-Slip Tie and Belt Valet, Horizontal Tie and Accessory Hanger, and 24-Peg Non-Slip Tile or Belt Rack. If not, you can make your own scarf hanger by creating loops at the bottom to hold your scarves.

Another set of steps to organize your scarves is as follows; First, gather all your scarves. Second, reduce your collection. Doing this can cause you to separate the good ones from the ones that need fixing. Third, evaluate your scarves. Group them according to the materials they are made of and see which of those bandanas is used most often. Fourth, place neatly folded scarves in a drawer.

Another way to store scarves is to fold them neatly and carefully keeping them in a cool, dry, uncrowded place. You can also fold them up and hang them on a padded hanger and let them hang loose. The cleaning and storage of scarves depends on the materials from which they are made. The owner must know it.

How about your shawls? A woolen shawl should be treated in the same way that we treat any type of woolen material. It should not be wrinkled. Therefore, there must be a 24-hour break between uses. This will make the wool shawl straighten itself without ironing.

However, if you have to iron it, never place an iron directly on the fabric, always use an ironing cloth on top. If your shawl has water or other liquid stains on it, take it to a high-quality dry cleaner. Don’t experiment with it. You should only dry clean your shawl.

When storing your shawl, you should fold it neatly over a duffel sweater bag, or alternatively wrap it in a piece of unbleached muslin. Experts recommend that it be applied with an acid-free white fabric in the pleats so that the embroidery and beading do not print into the fabric.

Don’t hang your shawl on a hanger. This will ruin the embroidery on the shawl. Shawls should only be folded flat inside their storage location, which should be a dry and never humid environment. Do not store plastic wrap or other materials that may affect the dye color of the fabric. This is important in rooms with a hot environment.
