The law
Keeping this animal as a pet is illegal. However, people are gaining more and more experience in keeping this animal.
Laws against keeping native animals as pets were designed to protect the animals. However, the laws can backfire and many people question the law that prevents keeping native animals as pets if they come from captive-bred populations.
Former
There is a precedent for this approach. For example, it is generally illegal to sell live, wild-caught native fish, but it can be quite legal to catch and sell them. I must add a note of caution here. Many fish are subject to different rules for catching them. Make sure you understand this before you go fishing.
another similar example
Prior to 1975, it was legal in South Australia to take and sell or keep Macquarie short-necked turtles, Emydura macquarii. In 1975, it was made illegal to take any wild tortoise or tortoise. However, a fruit grower near the Murray River obtained a permit to take 100 wild Macquarie short-necked turtles to try to start a captive breeding program. His breeding program was very successful and he has been supplying the pet industry in Australia ever since. Your Turtles have now gone through at least three generations.
I think your efforts have done more to protect this species than the legal ban on taking them.
The same type of rule could be applied to the spotted-tailed quack.
Intelligence
This animal has intelligence similar to a cat.
sand trays
The Spot-tailed Quoll can be trained to use a litter box in the same way as a kitten.
Night
The Spot-tailed Quoll is primarily nocturnal in the wild, but comes out during the day to enjoy the sunlight. This is similar to our more familiar cats.
Hunt
This is a more effective animal for controlling rats and mice than the domestic cat. One difference between them and kittens is that the spotted-tailed quoll tends to kill them immediately, whereas a cat will sometimes play with a mouse for a long time before killing it.
Aside from being more humane with the little mouse, it reduces the chance of the rodent escaping into the house and colonizing the house.
Quolls, like cats, will climb trees and eat birds (and sometimes their eggs), but they’re certainly no worse at killing birds than cats.
affectionately
People who have kept quolls say they become just as affectionate with humans as they are with cats.
Compatible with Cats
Quolls and cats have stuck together, loving in harmony.
Is the time
It is time for governments to reconsider the laws on keeping native animals as pets.
