Some people are pushed from the inside and other people are pushed from the outside, too many others. People who are really driven from within are usually the winners, while those motivated purely by external things are usually the losers. Sure, luck, fortune, and all that can influence variation in results, don’t get me wrong, but those driven from within have the automatic advantage. In fact, being motivated from within is the greatest thing in the world, because you have the power plant from within to carry on, even if you temporarily fail at times. Those motivated from the outside simply have to depend on luck and fortune to get ahead, because perseverance is not in them.
Think about these realities for a moment. Be driven from within it is the greatest thing there is, then. Otherwise it is like a child waiting for a treat reward for all that he has done well and there is nothing to “reward” him.
So I get it if you haven’t done it yet, genuine reward needs to be done from inside you. Now, I’m not saying that life is as bad as politics, or as amoral as winning a game of poker, or as automatically moral as business can get at its best, but I am saying that true motivation has to come. from within or from within. it is not there at all. After all, the outside world with no inner motivation is a cold place to be, do, and have anything, anyway.
Think right now, those who are psychologically oriented on “locus of control theory.” Those who have an internal locus of control get their motivation from within, it’s that simple. Those with an external locus of control are like Pavlov’s dogs salivating at a bell or more in a more polite way: they are motivated by apparent rewards outside of themselves. Think about that for a moment. When the power plant is within you, you own the power. When the power plant is a battery outside of you, you’d better develop some force from within. Some of the best things, opportunities, and realities in life are lost because the reality of inner motivation is lost. Without the power within you, you are nowhere more than surrendering your power. When you can motivate yourself no matter what happens, that’s when you begin to possess the power, the momentum, and the opportunity.
