Types of kitchen cabinets explained

The kitchen cabinet that was basically designed to store kitchen appliances has evolved tremendously over the past decades. Today’s kitchen cabinets are worlds apart from the cabinets of 20-30 years ago. In this article we are going to talk about the different types of kitchen furniture that are currently available on the market.

A kitchen cabinet is divided into three different groups based on its shape and specifications.

Cabinet base:

These are perhaps the most common types of cabinets available on the market. The base cabinet rests on the floor and usually has a countertop. These are the preferred furniture for flats and apartments that tend to have a very moderate kitchen space.

The height of this cabinet is around 34 inches to 36 inches. The depth can vary between 24 and 30 inches. It usually has a single door and some newer models may have a double door and the interior of the cabinet may have shelves or multiple drawers stacked. This is the kitchen cabinet preferred mainly for its simpler design.

Many modified versions of base cabinets are also available on the market. The most popular are the sink base and corner base. Sink bases are probably the most purchased kitchen cabinets in the world. It usually has a false drawer and an open area where plumbing work is hidden. On the other hand, a corner base is like any other shelf that is mainly used to store some day-to-day things that are commonly used in the kitchen.

Wall cabinets:

These cabinets are designed in such a way that they can be built into the wall or simply hung on the wall. They are basically shaped like a base cabinet, the only difference is that they are mainly used as a top cabinet for storing things in the kitchen. These cabinets are unique and are commonly used in apartments or individual homes. The most common thing to take into account when buying this type of furniture is the height of the kitchen ceiling and the height of the person. You don’t want to end up buying a tall cabinet and not being able to reach the top shelf. So be sure to buy a cabinet so that you can use all the shelves and drawers in the cabinet with ease.

The factory standard height of this cabinet ranges from 12 to 42 inches. The depth of these cabinets is around 12 to 18 inches.

Tall cabinets:

These are long, slim cabinets. These are essentially like a closet. They are very ideal for tight spaces. This tall cabinet offers enough places to store many things. The industrial dimensions of this cabinet are 84 to 94 inches long and 12 to 18 inches deep.
