What to pack for a sailing vacation?

If this is your first time sailing, you may be wondering what to bring on board. Here is a detailed list of items that you may need while browsing, that is, items that can come in handy in times of need. However, most of the suggested items are personal in nature. We consider it our duty to let you know, but the final decision rests with you.

For those of you who are seasoned sailors, this will be a good reminder and checklist, so you will carry everything you need with you.

For starters, if possible, take soft luggage or duffel bags instead of suitcases, as they don’t take up as much space on board as suitcases and are easier to put aside.

Documents, phone book and means of payment

• boarding pass

• the contact details of the departure base

• personal identification documents (passport, personal identification card, driver’s license and a health identification card)

• Skipper license (if you are sailing the boat yourself, without hiring our skipper)

• personal insurance policy

• other identity documents (diving, fishing, etc.)

• Personal phone book with special emphasis on the numbers you can contact in case of need, regardless of working hours. These should include the contact details of the port authorities and your charter agency.

• money (credit cards, checks, cash)

Clothes and shoes

• waterproof clothing (in case of rain and / or strong winds)

• set of warm clothes (even on summer nights at sea it can stop getting cold)

• Lightweight clothing set (casual clothing is best for the daily walk. Pack shorts, jeans and light cotton shirts, T-shirts, and a light windbreaker. Wear a costume if you plan to go out at night).

• a hat with a brim to protect yourself from the sun

• shoes with soft rubber soles, boat shoes or sandals

• swimsuit

Personal items

• Sunglasses

• replacement contact lenses, if you wear them

• mask

• ends

Personal hygiene

• prepared for personal hygiene

• towels

• Beach towels

• paper towel or tissues

• toilet paper

• High SPF sun lotions: Light skin-absorbing lotions and creams are preferred. Avoid oily products that can be dangerously slippery.

• insect repellent

First aid and medical supplies.

Along with the medications you take on a daily basis, it would be helpful to have medications on board

by:

• nausea

• stomach diseases

• intestinal problems

• throat inflamation

• cough

• high temperature

• allergies

• fishing permit and equipment (you need a permit for your underwater weapon)

• travel guides

• accessories for washing dishes

• pair of scissors
