Fixing those springs for Celica GT-S

When connecting a car, a set of lowering springs is a must. The springs should be firm, but not too stiff. How many times have you seen lowered cars bounce up and down? or more specifically, while the car is moving? When the car bounces, its contact patch becomes inconsistent, increasing the chances of the tire losing grip entirely, which is definitely not good. If your tire leaves the pavement for a fraction of a second while cornering, you could lose control of your car and crash it.

Eibach has been making springs since 1951 and makes high-performance springs for almost every car in existence. Two kits are offered for the Celica GT-S: Pro-Kit and Sport line. Pro-Kits would have lowered the car just over an inch. If you’re going to opt for larger 17-inch wheels, Eibach recommends that you opt for the Sport lines, which lower the car 1.8 inches at the front and 2.4 inches at the rear. When using the Sportline kit it is strongly recommended that the Eibach Alignment Kit be fitted to bring camber specs back to the same.

Here are the steps to fix the spring on the Celica GT-S from the folks at superstreetonline.com:

1. Start by removing the rear interior panels.

2. After removing the panels, remove the bolts holding the strut/spring to the strut tower.

3. The same goes for the front assembly.

4. Remove the lower bolts that hold the lower control arms to the upper links. Do not attempt to push the ACL down to allow room to remove the strut/spring assembly.

5. Moving to the front of the car, use a strap to hold the axle on the tranny. By removing the strut, gravity pulls the suspension out and can potentially pull the axle out.

6. Pull out the strut/spring assembly.

7. Mark each strut to ensure you do not mix them up.

8. Measure the top and trim the proper amount. Eibach includes instructions on how much to trim.

9. The top of the bumps cut off the proper amount. The reason the top of the bumps are shortened is to give you extra suspension travel. Since the car will obviously sit lower, you will lose quite a bit of travel if you leave the stops at their original length. Do not remove the stops.

10. Replace washers and hardware on strut, paying close attention to order.

11. The top of the strut shaft has a flat area that you should pay attention to. Many times, users will simply break the top mount and be content with a forced fit. Don’t do it Chip!

12. Install the OEM rubber boot and upper mount. This is the front assembly, but the same goes for the rear.

13. Before tightening all bolts, be sure to properly align the spring seat. Then it’s done!
