Siberian Huskies are beautiful arctic dogs. Owning a Siberian is a privilege and you must learn how to properly train your dog. Huskies are pack dogs and need a pack leader to guide, protect and feed the rest of the dogs. Sure, the world around us changes rapidly, but the Siberian husky’s mind isn’t too far removed from that of his wolf ancestors.
There are some simple rules that you need to follow while training a Siberian husky. The first rule is to never use negative reinforcement to train your pup. You need to establish trust and if your dog can’t trust you then you could be in trouble down the line. The old fashioned way of coaxing your dog into compliance is not very effective and should never be used.
But if we can’t punish our dog to obey, how the hell are we supposed to get our furry little friend to behave towards us? Well, for one, you could try using the positive reinforcement method. This is a great way to train your husky because he soon learns that certain behaviors result in praise and rewards. Dogs associate a certain command with the action, and if the action they performed was correct, they receive a treat and a pat on the head. After all, if they want to survive, they better learn quickly what the owner likes.
It’s true, your pup wants to please you and all you need to do is show him exactly what you expect. For example, let’s say you want to housetrain your puppy, but you don’t even know where to start. For starters, you can stop yelling and punishing your puppy every time he poops on the ground because he just doesn’t know better.
Did you know that a puppy doesn’t remember his actions for more than a few seconds, so if you punish your puppy even 30 seconds later, he may not be able to associate the punishment with the act? It’s true and that’s why so many dog owners have problems with their puppies.
Now, instead of punishing your pup every time he urinates on the floor, try implementing crate training and housebreaking together. Keep your puppy in a crate for a while (so he doesn’t urinate) and then take him outside from time to time. As soon as they urinate outside, praise and reward them graciously. This will make a mental note that peeing outside makes the owner happy and I get treats. It’s a very simple concept and all you need to do is keep it that way for a while and you’ll be training your husky before you know it.
